MEET THE INSTRUCTOR
My name is Brandon Villarroel. Owner and instructor at Spartan Warrior Combat MMA. I started my martial arts journey with my father when I was about six years old. Those early days built the foundation for everything I do now. In 2008, I joined Jonathan Uzcátegui when his gym was called All Rules in North Carolina. I originally went for boxing, but after he told me to stay for the jiu-jitsu class, I instantly fell in love with the sport. Over time, Jonathan became my professor and guided me through my promotions.
As I got older, I trained at different gyms after moving back to New Jersey. I spent time with several Gracie schools, a 10th Planet affiliate, and trained with UFC veterans Jim Miller and Frankie Edgar, The Ultimate Fighter winner Andy Main, and Pedro Minc. Each coach and gym helped shape the way I train and teach today.
MMA has done more for me than just improve my skills. It helps me organize my thoughts, stay calm under pressure, and not react emotionally in tough situations. It’s built my confidence and focus both on and off the mats.
Now, I teach Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, MMA, and self-defense. I also offer training in Close Quarters Combat (CQC), Close Quarters Battle (CQB), defensive tactics, and weapons combat when requested.
Outside the gym, I work as a state agent and security contractor. My duties include executive protection, fugitive recovery, and private investigations. My jiu-jitsu training plays a big role in my career, giving me the ability to safely restrain and cuff subjects while keeping myself and others protected.
Martial arts has been a lifelong part of who I am. It keeps me grounded, disciplined, and always learning, and I try to pass that same mindset on to every student I teach.
